On his first visit to Everett in 44 years, the Rev. A.L. Moe renewed old acquaintances and expressed amazement at the area’s remarkable growth and change. He was staying with his son, Don Moe, executive director of Parkland Lutheran Children’s Home here.
Joining the faculty of Everett Junior College was Oliver Lawrence of Seattle, instructor of English. Lawrence came here from the University of Washington, where he had been an assistant in the English Department. He had also taught at Oregon State College and Bahia, Brazil.
Payge Dennis, a Monroe High School junior, was selected as Monroe Fair Days Queen by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. The queen and her court would reign at the Evergreen Sate Fair. First princess was Joan Bickler, second princess was Brenda Smith, and ladies in waiting were Tammy Carlisle and Patricia Poole.
Jay and Londa Bachler and their baby daughter Marriah waited more than an hour in the checkout line at Haggen’s Food Store in Lynnwood. The Bellingham-based grocery store chain was selling off merchandise at its 44,000-square-foot Lynnwood store lock, stock and barrel as the final step in its move to a new Alderwood Mall location.
