50 years ago (1956)
Sarah Kravik, one of the leaders for the Snohomish County chapter of the Washington Cancer Society, gave thanks to Esther Kallstrom for her excellent work in directing the Neighbor to Neighbor campaign in Everett in April. More than $3,500 was raised from the volunteer work done by Kallstrom and her aides.
One of the county’s newest industries starting on a fairly small scale but showing signs of rapid growth was a gutter manufacturing mill in Edgecomb. Operated by D.W. Butterfield, the plant had started turning out wooden gutters and moldings for buildings, the first carload already delivered.
50 years ago (1981)
The split between Everett and Edmonds community colleges became official today as Gov. John Spellman dissolved the colleges’ central governing board and named five people to serve on newly created boards of trustees for both schools.
Crown Distributing of Everett recently received the first-place sales award for the highest percentage of increased 1980 Rainier beer sales in Washington. Members of the sales staff included Ron Fowler, Darrell Harper, Kim Blunt, Sam Bargreen, Bill Myrick, Bud Greenhalgh, Daun Wright, Bruce Ward and Alan Anderson.
