Officials from the Elks Club and Everett High School track and field gathered to discuss the Elks-sponsored Snohomish County meet at Memorial Stadium. They were Floyd Berry, exalted leader; Ray Sidley and Vince Martinis, Elks co-chairmen; Art Ramstad, head coach; Dick Abrams, assistant coach; and John Tonnes, Seagull track captain.
The Cascade chapter of the Order of DeMolay was to install officers during public ceremonies at the Masonic Temple. Taking over three top posts in the chapter were Paul Stewart, master councilor; Coburn Holmstad, senior councilor; and Doug McKenzie, junior councilor.
Richard Vander Weken saved the life of a retired State Patrol trooper thanks to some pictures he had seen that showed how to perform CPR. He and his wife, Jean, passed a car half on Sunnyside Boulevard near Soper Hill Road, where Harland and Elaine Ritter had been driving around their former neighborhood when Harland Ritter passed out.
Twenty of the non-native mountain goats in Olympic National Park would be moved to Snohomish County in the summer. Some would be trucked to Mount Higgins near Darrington, while others would arrive by helicopter at Lime Ridge in the Glacier Peak Wilderness.
