50 years ago (1956)
J.C. “Jack” Ross, owner of Ross Bootery, announced a closing-out sale. He and his wife came to Everett 30 years earlier and opened the shop in the Strand Hotel. Four years later they moved the business to 2812 Colby Ave., where it had been ever since. Ross was happy his store had lasted so long, since the average life of a shoe store was seven years.
Mary Nunan, who recently returned from San Jose, Costa Rica, was the guest speaker at the meeting of Mukilteo Presbyterian Ladies Guild. Margaret Caley and Bernadean Klemp were hostesses.
25 years ago (1981)
Guy Sherbourne, a 31-year carnival veteran, was ride superintendent, maintenance man and crew boss for the Funtastic Traveling Shows. They were setting up next to the Norton Avenue boat launch as part of the Salty Sea Days celebration.
For the past 20 years, Lynn-O-Rama was a mid-summer staple in Lynnwood, featuring beauty queens, carnivals and all the other things associated with festivals. But there would be no 21st Lynn-O-Rama. Organizers said interest had waned and they were having trouble lining up volunteers for the event.
