50 years ago (1956)
Door prizes and special sale prices were being offered at the grand opening celebration at Castle Drugs at 19th Street and Broadway. Ready to greet the public were Rich Bettger, registered pharmacist and manager; Evelyn Heim, registered pharmacist; and sales clerks Ethel Shird, Herb Joyce, May Dams and Russ Coon.
Three girls at Everett Junior College earned perfect “straight-A” grades for winter quarter. All were graduates of Everett High School. They were Marilyn Almgren, majoring in education; Ellen Hagglund, majoring in home economics; and Kay Pearson, majoring in secretarial science.
25 years ago (1981)
It was now time to order Easter eggs at Carter’s Drug Store, where the Easter rabbit worked. Names were written free on plush bunnies, divinity eggs and solid chocolate novelties. Carter’s, located at 2227 Broadway, was open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
Several thousand residents of an unincorporated area east of Marysville would have a chance to vote on whether on not they wanted Community Transit bus service. The vote would be held in eight electoral precincts: Robin, Bee, Howell, Ebey, Sparlin, Norm, Alma and Allen Creek. Vic Sood, a director of CT, said that bus service, if approved, couldn’t begin until January.
