50 years ago (1956)
W. Doyle Watt was elected president of the Everett General Hospital Association at its annual meeting at the Jordan Home. James Ramsey Jr., retiring president, presided. Charles Crist was new vice president, and Ralph Schapler was secretary-treasurer.
Pinehurst was soon to get street lighting – 11 miles of it, members of the Pinehurst Commercial Club announced after winding up a 10-day campaign to collect signatures. The club’s lighting committee of Clyde Sholes, Walt Jones and Herf Looysen presented the water district with a petition signed by 80 percent of the users.
25 years ago (1981)
Paul Newland, 1411 Rucker Ave., received his master’s degree in engineering from the University of Michigan’s Horace Rackham School of Graduate Studies. He was employed by Bell Laboratories in New Jersey.
The Marcus Whitman Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution selected the following high school seniors as winners of its annual Good Citizen Contest: Cathi Cashen from Cascade, LaFon Ferguson from Everett, Tracie Burgess from Mariner and Pamela Athey from Lake Stevens. Students were selected for their leadership, dependability, service and patriotism.
