50 years ago (1964)
Frank Platt of Walsh-Platt Motors received a plaque from Orin Imbs and Ed Morrow, who represented the Everett Administration Unite of Washington Education Association. Walsh-Platt provided Everett Junior College with a new driver training car each year and a high school student with an athletic trophy and scholarship.
Her hobby of recipe developing and cooking paid off handsomely for Bette Minshull of Rt. 2 Lake Stevens, for she was just notified that her recipe “Citrus Chicken Barbecue” was selected winner in the Barbecue Division, National Chicken Cooking Contest.
25 years ago (1989)
Jason Weir, Everett High School junior, played a nearly perfect final hole at the Northwest District AAA golf tournament at Kayak Point. He sank an 18-foot birdie putt to record a one-stroke victory and shot a 2-over-par 74.
Western Conference AA track and field championships appeared to be habit forming for Lynnwood and Lake Stevens high schools. The Lynnwood girls won their second straight title and third title in the last four years. The Lake Stevens boys team captured its third consecutive league title, and fifth in the last six years.
