Air Force supply officer Gilbert Norris, who went to Turkey from Beale Air Force Base in California and was assigned to the Army temporarily, recently was promoted to the rank of major. Norris was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Norris, 2314 Maple St.
In the past year, Edmonds had grown by 25 percent, to 4,165, according to a census taken by A.E. Maxwell and Edward Scott. Mayor Gordon Maxwell said the added population would help the city’s tax base. Much of the growth was due to annexations.
25 years ago (1981)
Bill Barringer, an Everett animal control officer, emerged as a hero to neighborhood residents as they watched him climb 60 feet into a tree in the 3900 block of Grand Avenue to rescue a sea gull that had become snared in a kite line.
Shelly Shofner installed the wiring in crucial black boxes for the space shuttle at ELDEC’s Lynnwood plant.
