50 years ago (1956)
Jean McNeil, a fifth-grader in Carrie Bertz’s class at Longfellow School, told classmates Chuck Walters and Nancy Norris about the life of President Eisenhower. The class was studying the presidents using models of the men in the White House. Matt Wiggum did his report on President Harrison.
Work started on a huge Snohomish County PUD substation on Paine Street between 34th and 35th streets in Everett. The $600,000 substation was being built on land purchased from Washington Stove Works. It would be twice as large as the substation on Broadway north of Pacific Avenue.
25 years ago (1981)
With pledges totaling more than $500, Jeanie Duffy did her annual walkathon for the March of Dimes. Her walk started at Legion Park in north Everett and ended at the Space Needle in Seattle.
Velma Johns and Walter Warner and staff welcomed Mary Ellen Brodel, professional hairstylist, to Fashion Beauty Salon on Evergreen Way in south Everett. The shop’s hairstyle of the month was Hair Action ‘81, a short and semi-curly style with an uplift in the back.
