Smoke poured from the roof and out the windows of The Everett Daily Herald plant at Colby Avenue and Wall Street as five companies of firefighters battled to control a blaze. The fire, which broke out at 8:55 p.m., burned fiercely for nearly an hour and stubbornly resisted efforts to snuff it out.
In Darrington, the Timber Bowl Branch of the National Bank of east Stanwood was to hold an open house in observance of Know Your Bank week. Bank manager Pat Pittson and employees Vivian Reece and Kathleen Robinson were to greet the public.
Stafford Miller, conductor of the Everett Symphony Orchestra, said the music selection at the symphony’s next two performances would be eclectic. The performances were to be held at the Everett Civic Auditorium and the Ste. Michelle winery in Woodinville.
Evergreen Gardens had a Valentine’s special on azaleas. Top-quality, blooming, potted, foiled and bowed, they were just $3.99. The store also had cut flowers, blooming plants, rose bushes and strawberry plants. It was located at 9407 Evergreen Way.
