50 years ago (1955)
“Pop” Haggerty, a prominent athletic official, was the guest speaker at the meeting of the Snohomish County Basketball Officials Association in the Snohomish County PUD service building on California Street. He reviewed basketball rules.
New in Darrington was the Three Rivers Plywood and Timber Co. plant. George Morris was the superintendent, and George Bolton was the assistant superintendent. Thirty people were employed at the plant.
25 years ago (1980)
Snohomish County’s first kidney dialysis center, under construction near Providence Hospital, was to open in May. U.S. Sen. Henry M. Jackson was the honorary chairman of a fund to raise money for it.
At 21, Shawn O’Donnell was a budding entrepreneur. His latest risk was a salon in Mountlake Terrace that he operated with his wife, Tina. He also owned a coin-operated laundry in Richmond Beach.
