50 years ago (1955)
Leading the yells that spurred the state-champion Everett Junior College Trojans to victory were five lively pep squad members: Allan White, Mary Kaiser, Kay Hogland, Theresa Winje and Fred Brown.
Paul Ylvisaker was named the first winner of the JC of the Month award given by the Everett Junior Chamber of Commerce. It voted for him in recognition of his work as secretary of the organization and co-chairman of the Soap Box Derby. Ylvisaker was now in business in Portland, Ore.
25 years ago (1980)
Ferry traffic resumed between Mukilteo and Whidbey Island after repairs were complete on the dock that officials said had needed improvements for years. Service had been switched to Edmonds for a couple days after the Nisqually crashed into the dock and damaged the support structure for the landing pier.
Three free lessons and one racquet came with a membership to the Everett Athletic Club at 2201 California St. There was also a 30-day trial period with no obligation. In addition to racquetball, the club offered handball, a Jacuzzi tub, a gymnasium, a weight room, a nursery and a TV lounge.
