50 years ago (1964)
The Rev. George Stone of Marysville, minister of Harmony Hill Unity Church in Everett, would preach his last sermon here tomorrow. He had accepted the pastorate of the Unity Church of Bakersfield, California. Stone and his wife Ona had served the church for four years.
Massive preformed concrete wall sections of the new Sno-Line YMCA pool building were lifted into place this week by a tall crane. The 90 by 86 feet building was being constructed by Sanford-Wright Construction Co. of Everett under a $190,606 contract.
25 years ago (1989)
The Everett Merchants baseball team would play Eugene or Longview in the first round of the Western International League western regional baseball tournament at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Maudie Eldon, 64, kicked to the tune of “The Yellow Rose of Texas” as she instructed Camp Fire Girls in the finer art of dancing. Ed Gallagher, 80, helped a fourth-grader learn calligraphy. Gina Morgan, 8, learned from George Montague, 64, how much fun watercolor painting could be. It was all part of a program narrowing the generation gap taking place at the South Snohomish County Senior Center.
