50 years ago (1964)
Great Northern Railway was planning a $1 million project between Mukilteo and Merritt. The first station on the east side of the Cascade Tunnel would speed up traffic and line capacity. It would centralize traffic control, meaning that all movements would be controlled from a central dispatcher office.
Joseph Arthur Kofoed, son of Valerie Kofoed, 1417 Larch St., was 2 years old today. Grandparents were Mrs. And Mrs. Arthur Lyon and Mrs. Anna Koefoed, and great-grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. Aire Gaudsward, all of Everett. Joseph’s sister, Kelly Jean, was 4.
25 years ago (1989)
Sandy’s Everett Boat House Inc. had opened at the 14th Street Marina. Owners Raleigh and Sandy Stein offered Yamaha outdoor motors and generators as well as new lines of Achilles inflatable craft and Hi-Lander Boats.
Pacific Sporting Goods &Bakery, 501 West Stanley St. in Granite Falls, would open the bakery part of its operation April 1, offering fresh-baked products seven days a week. Ron and Rosemary Crawford were the owners. Their sporting goods store had recreational equipment, plus information and maps for the Mountain Loop area.
