2nd Lt. Douglas Hadley was home on 30 days leave after graduating from aircraft classes at Harlingen Air Force Base in Texas. He gained his wings and commission at the base. Hadley was staying at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hadley, at 1123 Wetmore Ave.
Dexter Carl Day, son of Josephine Morris of 3224 Laurel Drive, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years.
25 years ago (1980)
Jane Abelsen, for many years a custom decorator with Sears, could make a home look its best. Those needing new window treatments or upholstery could contact her at the store’s custom drapery department.
Toys “R” Us, the world’s biggest chain of toy stores, announced it would move into the Northwest. One of its four stores in the area would be at 18601 Alderwood Mall Blvd. The 43,000-square-foot store was scheduled to open in September.
