50 years ago (1955)
Marguerite Rosenberg was selected as a delegate to the national conference of Auxiliaries of the American Medical Center at Denver. Rosenberg organized the Everett chapter’s first benefit.
Jimmy Wilson, who played center field for the Snohomish semi-pro baseball team in 1910-11, called on old friends in Snohomish. Surviving among his teammates were Herb Ness of Snohomish, Buns Giddings and Whitey Jurgens of Everett, and Ed Bunstine of Renton. Others still remembered were Kansas Skillman, Art Walton, Ray Stevens and Buddy Welsh.
25 years ago (1980)
After 37 years of work, Ruby Merkel retired from her job in the Snohomish County auditor’s office. She had been supervisor in the real estate department for 12 years and worked in the licensing and election departments prior to that. Among the changes she had seen was keeping documents on microfilm instead of using a standard typewriter.
Robert Ledeen was appointed on his 65th birthday to a position on the Gold Bar Town Council by Gov. Dixy Lee Ray. Ledeen said his top priority was getting financial matters in order. He had come to Gold Bar from Fremont, Calif., two years before.
