50 years ago (1955)
Arthur Greene was elected to serve as president of the Snohomish County Association of Insurance Agents for the 1955-56 fiscal year at association’s regular annual meeting, held at the Monte Cristo Hotel. Other officers and trustees elected were Walter Higgins, Alvin Petershagen, Dolph Rae, Al Tunem and Bob Mony. New members of the group were Lawrence Retz, Clyde Kinch, Harold Fankhauser, Helen Frances Erickson and R.T. Minnich.
The Rev. Emrys Thomas assumed the role of pastor for the First Congregational Church, 2628 Rockefeller Ave., on Aug. 1. He and his wife, Eleanor, had three sons, Terry, Jeffry and Parke.
25 years ago (1980)
Those looking for a start in politics could file for vacant precinct committee posts in both major parties. The Democratic Party county chairman was Ed Hansen. Garry Pagon was the chairman of the Republican Party.
Would-be cowboys and cowgirls could have summertime fun at the Lake Serene Pony Farm. Guides led young riders through the woods at a gentle walk or trot. The biggest risk was that children would be begging for a pony of their own.
