Dorothy Stock of Marysville was declared the winner in the intermediate group of music composers in connection with the recent Bellevue Arts fair. She was a pupil of Stephen Balough and a graduate of Cornish School in Seattle. She also studied under Florence Howell of Everett.
Merton Waller Jr. was to be acting principal of Coupeville High School, it was announced by Superintendent Marvin Hanson. He was also head basketball and head baseball coach. Waller was a 1945 graduate of Everett High School, where he was a basketball star.
25 years ago (1980)
Wind-borne volcanic ash from Mount St. Helens finally reached Snohomish County late last night, but the dusting was so light that most people hardly noticed it. The Washington State Patrol reported that the one-sixteenth of an inch of ash that fell in Gold Bar was the heaviest accumulation of ash in the county.
International soccer came to Everett tonight with Stammheim, West Germany’s, under-19 team meeting the Everett Stars at Mariner High School. The Everett team was coached by Cascade High School’s Pat Sullivan, who guided the Bruins’ girls team to the state title the previous year.
