50 years ago (1955)
Paul Peterson was appointed to the office of comptroller at the Simpson Paper Co. mill in Lowell. He assumed his new responsibilities in addition to his work as staff assistant in charge of purchasing of equipment, supplies, and materials, personnel, labor relations and public relations.
Firefighters from Maysville and Arlington were called to a stubborn fire at the Wigwam on Highway 99. With the type of construction, the walls acted as a chimney for the fire within the structure. The building sustained considerable smoke damage and some structural damage.
25 years ago (1980)
State Sen. Dianne Woody of Woodinville announced that she planned to run again for the seat she had held since 1977. She was appointed then to replace her husband, Frank, after his death. She was elected to fill the unexpired term in 1978.
State Rep. Dick King of Everett announced that he would seek election to a ninth term representing the 38th District. He was first elected in 1964. King taught speech and communications at Everett Community College. He was married and had four children.
