50 years ago (1955)
Robert Best, editor and publisher of The Herald, was named general chairman of the “Everett On The Move” program, said Eric Nord, president of the Chamber of Commerce. Selected as divisional leaders were Paul Baldwin of Scott Paper, George Duecy of Associated Sand and Gravel, Loren Baker of West Coast Powder, Don Gillette of J.C. Penney and Glenn Carpenter of Carpenter and Carpenter Insurance.
Everett High School would have two vice principals. A.B. Colbun would be in charge of curriculum and guidance while William Hatch would be in charge of student affairs.
25 years ago (1980)
The Everett Avenue Merchants pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh inning to overtake Colonial Cedar of Tacoma 7-6 in the championship game of the Lacey Invitational Softball Tournament. Lee Canary sparked the rally with a two-run triple. Riley Cooper brought Canary home with a single. D.D. Cooper registered the pitching win.
School lunch prices for elementary and secondary pupils were going up a dime in the Everett School District. Elementary lunches would be 75 cents and secondary would be 90 cents. The price for adults would remain $1.25.
