Bertha Sweeney of Everett, prominent in the Eagles Auxiliary, was elected grand madam chaplain of the grand auxiliary at the national convention in Milwaukee, Wis. Word came to The Herald by way of a telegram from Bob Hunt Jr.
Karen Johnson and Kathy Warnock were aboard the Warnocks’ inboard Resorter on Lake Stevens. The Rainbow Girls were anticipating favorable weather for the Everett assembly’s picnic at the Warnock home on the lake.

It was no longer long distance to telephone between Everett and Arlington. The mayors of the two communities were the first to take advantage of the change. The extended area service was put into effect by General Telephone after 18 months of planning, said the firm’s division manager, Henry Kutschia.
