50 years ago (1955)
Everett Credit Women’s Breakfast Club was holding its meeting at the Monte Cristo Hotel. A recent meeting had a vacation theme, and tables were decorated by Mary Kane and Edith Reinertsen. Guest was Doris Wynne of John Beck Realty, and Alice Ratcliff led a discussion on more business with credit.
When Billy Rose planted peas at his home at 2601 State St., he expected them to grow to a height of 3 to 4 feet. Instead they grew some 12 feet, and he had to use a stepladder to pick his crop.
25 years ago (1980)
It was a mall world in Snohomish County. Fifteen new stores were coming to the Everett Mall, including Chaffee’s, Frederick and Nelson and PayLess Drug. The Sears store at the Alderwood Mall was opening. The Cascade Shopping Center opened this month with Safeway, Sea Galley, Straw Hat and Lowell’s.
John Fluke Manufacturing in Mountlake Terrace reported sales for its third quarter that were 21 percent higher than last year, topping $33.7 million.
