50 years ago (1955)
Lawmakers urged the inclusion of U.S. 2 linking Everett and Michigan in the national system of interstate highways. If included, the 2,178-mile route would become eligible for more federal aid under President Eisenhower’s highway construction program.
Doreen Burpee, Lowanda Conrad, Fern Root, Laura Kessell and Dorothy Rogers contended for queen of the Snohomish County Beauty Ball at the Monte Cristo Hotel. The Saturday event was in observance of National Beauty Salon Week.
25 years ago (1980)
Providence Hospital congratulated its employees of the year, who were selected by their co-workers as outstanding employees. They were Martha Habenicht, Wally Peper, Julie Pitts, Sue Lindblom, Marvin Drain, Lonna Meston, Pat Jones, Agnes Chambers, Sheila Warren and Eileen Gugich.
Alpine Drapery &Carpet Cleaners advertised the best service in the county. They offered truck-mounted steam cleaning and free drapery pickup and re-hanging. Their process guaranteed no shrinkage or damage. The firm was at 13902 Highway 99 between Everett and Lynnwood.
