50 years ago (1955)
On the front page was a photograph of the 1700 block of Rucker Avenue, always one of the most beautiful blocks in town. The flowering oriental plums were in full bloom.
Thanks to the Parky Bluebirds, some youngsters in Korea were going to get a gift of clothing. Wrapping up their “labor of love” were Bonnie Powlesland, Patty LeGros, Priscilla Smith, Kathleen Reinell, Susan Setterlund, Diane Facey, Judy Spear and Carolyn Thostenson. The girls used the receipts from their mint sales to pay for the postage.
25 years ago (1980)
Long-distance operator-assisted calls were being replaced by direct dialing in Snohomish County as a result of new technology. The Hispanic Coalition, 311 State St., Marysville, was organized to aid Hispanics in voicing their concerns. Ronaldo DelGado was executive officer. It was funded by the Catholic Church’s Campaign for Development.
