James Chittick of 2017 Melvin Ave. in Everett recently celebrated his 90th birthday. An avid gardener who wasn’t about to let the grass grow under his feet, Chittick was readying his garden for the season. The ground was spaded and fertilized. He was ready to plant, despite the snow.
South Junior High School was presenting its annual talent show. Among the 22 acts presented by seventh-graders were the Rainbow Square Dancers. Paul Jenson was the caller and the dancers were Patricia Stevens, Joan Wells, Diane Blazick, Sharon Kruick, Calvin Weddle, Roger Shaffer, Ronnie Qualle and Bill Ayer.
25 years ago (1980)
The state Senate Commerce Committee recommended that the full Senate confirm former Everett Mayor Robert Anderson as director of the State Department of Commerce and Industry. He was appointed to the job in May by Gov. Dixy Lee Ray after serving two months as a consultant.
The Mariner High School girls bowling team took second place in the state tourney at Kenmore Lanes. The Marauders had a lower pin-fall than several teams, but won on the record. Missie Thompson took the fifth berth on the five-member all-state team with a 170 average.
