50 years ago (1964)
Hat design students of Gwen Gourlie, would be showing the products of their efforts in a hat fashion show at Memorial Hall, Legion Park. Forty-eight students in classes taught by Gourlie would have hats on display. Anyone interested in millinery was invited to attend.
Today was the grand opening of the completely remodeled Everett Health Studio at 1809 Broadway. Doug Wallis was the owners and Ray Jones the manager. They offered modern equipment and professional individualized supervision on reducing, weight gaining and conditioning. They also had a Finnish steam bath.
25 years ago (1989)
No one lived in the yellow submarine in the Snohomish River. People raised eyebrows when the U.S. Navy sub the color of an overripe banana headed down the river to the Everett waterfront. The 44-year-old decommissioned Menhaden, once a state of the art work in underwater technology, would be scrapped.
Technology met tradition when Sanken USA Inc. celebrated the opening of its $10 million Harbour Pointe headquarters and manufacturing plant south of Mukilteo. The Japanese company was welcomed with dancers, sake toasts, koto music and the University of Washington Husky Band.
