50 years ago (1955)
Sister Carmelina, superior at Providence Hospital, honored personnel long associated with the hospital in ceremonies at the Nurses Home. They were Flora Griffin, 13 years; Eileen Gugich, nine years; Ann Duffy, eight years; and Victoria Maier, five years.
Snohomish County’s track and field team would be selected at the county high school meet sponsored by the Everett Elks. Selections would be made by a committee that included former track greats Crosby Pendleton and L.W. Spence.
25 years ago (1980)
Emma Bergstrom was installed as president and seven other women were installed as officers of the Everett Association of Professional Mortgage Women. Bergstrom was employed at Pioneer National Title Insurance. The other new officers were Gerri Shannon, Barbara Wise, Sherrill Martin, Julie Oyen, Gloria Atwood, Debra Story and Carol Pope.
Earl Garrison, an elementary school principal in the Edmonds School District, had another life in boat racing. Over 20 years, he had set speed records that still stood, won high-point honors in B stock hydros, been awarded the Gerry Walin inspirational award by the Stalle Outboard Association and won the association’s sportsman of the year award.
