50 years ago (1955)
Jean Henson became the new society and women’s page editor of The Herald. She was returning to the paper after nine months in San Francisco, where she was with the California Academy of General Practice. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Henson of 4616 Fowler Court.
Two young men who were getting a college education while holding down full-time jobs at Weyerhaeuser were Paul Perkins and Leroy Annis. Perkins was presently a student at Everett Junior College, while Annis had just completed his training there. Both were furthering their education with the aid of Weyerhaeuser’s Tuition Refund Program.
25 years ago (1980)
Terry Shibata, owner, and Teri Lynn Qually, manager, of the staff of Terry’s Thriftway, were recently named winners in the 1980 Thriftway “Standing Tall” store-improvement contest. The store competed with 26 others in Western Washington.
Eleven-year-old Don Rasmussen, who earned $60 last summer picking strawberries near his Stanwood home, would be spending the first part of this summer at the local swimming pool. This year he would have to wait until he was 12 at the end of June to be eligible for picking strawberries.
