50 years ago (1955)
Everett police Sgt. Frank “Pat” Patterson was named the state’s juvenile officer of the year. The award was made by the Washington Police Officers Association on the basis of Patterson’s work on the county juvenile traffic control program during the Silver Lake School Patrol Camp. He received congratulations from Gov. Arthur Langley.
Young sailor David Kyes of Seattle was thrilled to be assigned to a four-year stint on the destroyer USS James E. Kyes. The vessel was named for his father, Cmdr. James E. Kyes, a native of Everett, who died Christmas Eve 1943 when his destroyer, the Leary, took three torpedoes and sank in the North Atlantic.
25 years ago (1980)
Exchange Club Boy and Girl of the month were Greg Muller and Teresa McKay of Everett High School, Barb Kolkana and Scott Becraft of Cascade High School, and Julie Grubb and Alan Howard of Mariner High School.
Several were honored at a Valentine’s Day luncheon at the Everett Senior Center for their volunteer service. They were Marie Brown, Ruth Dunkle, Jane Dierks, Susie Hodgman, Tilda Hansen, Sven Lien, Mabel Miller, Inez Nimberick, Alice Neusel, Frank Neusel, Lillian Nelson, George Peterson, Laura Peterson, Dean Owen, Ethel Sayer, Elsie Scheuffele, Florence Shields, Ebbie Stewart, Astrid Stuvland, Al Swanson and June Swanson.
