50 years ago (1955)
U.S. Army Col. Leon W. Walton of Everett was assigned to the New Orleans Port of Embarkation as chief of the Overseas Supply Agency. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
The YMCA Falconers, coached by Herb Anderson, were the champions of the First YMCA Christmas Holiday Basketball Tournament.
25 years ago (1980)
Two young men were arrested when police found them on the crane being used for the Wall Street Building, which was under construction. They were checking out the Christmas tree on the boom. They had a great view, better than that from their jail cells later.
