50 years ago (1954)
Glenn and Blanche Bates of Bates Beauty Salon on Colby Avenue thanked patrons who made possible a larger and more luxurious salon, new equipment and an inspiration to be an even better beauty service. Employees were Lyle Squire, Nancy Lakey and Hazel Heaton.
Duane Pearson and Karen Pederson were selected as Everett Exchange Club’s Boy and Girl of the Month for November. Presenting the awards were John Hayes of the club and C.P. Rasmussen, pastor at Central Lutheran Church and principal speaker at the luncheon.
25 years ago (1979)
A comedy based on a true-life adventure, “Our Hearts Were Young and Gay,” was performed by the Fall Players of Mariner High School. John Piercy directed a cast of 17, topped by Kris Zimmerman and Michelle Ross.
Folk guitarist and singer Rick Ruskin was performing at the Everett Community College Trojan Union Building. Ruskin, called one of the best finger-style guitar pickers in the country by Folk Scene magazine, had two albums. Admission was free to students and 50 cents for the public.
