50 years ago (1954)
Three Rainbow Girls who were active in a Christmas swag-selling project were Kathleen Chapman, committee chairwoman; June Kellogg, assembly adviser; and Karmen Kiltz, committee worker. Swags were on sale at Montgomery Ward and B&M Hardware on Highway 99.
25 years ago (1979)
Fidelity Savings Bank opened a new downtown Everett office at the corner of Hewitt and Colby avenues. It was celebrating with refreshments provided by the local chapter of Sweet Adelines. Bill Root managed the bank, located on the site of the former Bicentennial Park.
Everett police issued about 110 citations over the weekend for violations involving “Colby cruisers.” Police spokesman Ken Murray said about 75 of the tickets were for traffic violations. Periodic crackdowns were carried out in the downtown area when complaints increased.
