50 years ago (1954)
The Barbershop Quartet Contest took place at Everett Civic Auditorium. One of the area’s top quartets was from Monroe: Hap Schrag, Herb Schwartz, Burt Countryman and Hal Fankhauser.
The first meeting of the newly formed Blue Feather Bluebird took place. Members were Gene Drumheller, president; Cheryl Provasek, vice president; Karen Wick, treasurer; Christy Murdock and Jerry Yesland, scroll bearers; Vicki Johnson and Penney Provasek, candle lighters; Candy Murdock and Molly Matthews, candle extinguishers; Jo-Anne Harrison, flag bearer; Judy Wick, door hostess; Linda Soley, prayer leader; and Barbara Muckey, refreshment hostess.
25 years ago (1979)
Bob Overstreet and Stewart Aldcroft won re-election to the Everett City Council. Overstreet was chief executive officer of Puget Press/Multiple Inc., and Aldcroft was local terminal agent for Burlington Northern Railroad. Councilmen Dale Pope and Carl Gipson ran unopposed.
Arlington Fire Chief John Larson, Marysville Councilman Daryl Brennick and Sultan contractor Harold Love became new mayors of their cities.
