50 years ago (1954)
The Afton Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star was meeting at the Marysville Masonic Hall. The Rainbow Girls would put on their initiatory work for the chapter. A cordial invitation was extended to all Eastern Stars by Worthy Matron Minnie McKenna and Worthy Patron Fred McCorkle.
Coach Richard Armstrong and two of his star Sultan High School football players were mapping strategy for their homecoming game against Monroe. The players were Don Bean, quarterback, and John Petrisor, guard and captain. Last Friday Sultan and Langley tied 13-13.
25 years ago (1979)
A new shop, Christmas Gifts on Broadway, offered gifts, ornaments, toys, miniatures and UNICEF cards. The shop, in a vintage 1910 bungalow at 3224 Broadway, also featured handicrafts, many made by local artists. Mary Elmore was owner.
Two Everett businesses sharing the same address were holding a grand opening, offering public tours and refreshments. Northwest Hearing Aid Service and Cascade Chiropractic Center shared offices at 1718 Broadway. The former used to be known as Sonotone of Everett. Chiropractor Harlen H. Johnson had been associated with the latter.
