50 years ago (1954)
Jack Westland Insurance and Real Estate presented a new home by builder William Morrison at 796 Crown Drive in the Harborview area. The home had linoleum and countertops by Slingerlend Furniture, cabinets by Pete’s Cabinet Shop, finished floors by Bedell Floor, glass by Goldfinch Bros., baseboard heating by Intercity Electric, ceramic tile by H.O. Seiffert, building materials by Hickey Lemaster, painting by Hatloe &Son, locks by Wold Hardware, doors by Angel &Nelson, insulation by Williamson Bros. and plumbing by Sager.
Fred Stone, right halfback, and Norm Lyshall, right end, served as co-captains when Everett Junior College met Shasta Junior College of Redding, Calif., in a game at Memorial Stadium.
25 years ago (1979)
Pat McClain, general manager of the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce for the three years, was leaving to become community relations officer for Weyerhaeuser’s Everett operations. He was replacing Jim Longlois in the position.
Old-growth red cedar might be a thing of the past in Washington, a U.S. Forest Service study showed. Charles Boisinger, research forester, said forest managers neglected the species because it grew so slowly. Faster-growing trees had been planted areas that had been logged.
