50 years ago (1954)
Officers of the newly formed Everett Mountain Rescue Unit were Kenn Carpenter, chairman; Norman Omodt, vice chairman; and William Doph, secretary-treasurer. Members at large were Chris Lehmann, Bill Chambers, Aldon Haug and Harold Sievers.
In a story not unlike a Horatio Alger yarn, a boy who grew up in Everett was now managing one of the most prestigious hotels in the country. Harry M. Anholt was the manager of the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver. He was also a personal friend of President Eisenhower.
25 years ago (1979)
The Veterans of Foreign Wars new mobile Service Center brought information about veterans’ benefits to Snohomish County. It would stop at the Everett Mall, Alderwood Mall, Fred Meyer on Evergreen Way, Marysville B&M Center, Thrifty Foods in Arlington, Thrifty Foods in Stanwood, Thriftway in Snohomish and Safeway in Monroe.
Mariner High School was again the favorite among the Western Conference wresting teams. Having won 65 straight dual matches and four consecutive league titles, it was hard to pick anyone else. Coach Bruce Burns was looking forward to another good season with his veteran quintet of Kevin Fuller, Alan Wakeland, Clint Jordan, Jim Smith and Brian Yates.
