50 years ago (1954)
The Soroptimist Club was celebrating its eighth anniversary. President Lisbeth Masi posed with former presidents Frances Kuse, Mildred Simpson, Betty LeGros, Virginia Miller, Helen Lalin and Elizabeth Jensen. The organization’s first president, Vivian Widmer, was unable to attend.
Marine James Jordan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Jordan of 2431 Summit Ave., was promoted to corporal. Jordan enlisted in 1953 and was stationed in Korea with Able Company, 1st Battalion 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division.
25 years ago (1979)
Generations melted away as Red Cross Adult Day Care Center participants hosted first-graders from Immaculate Conception School for a Christmas party. Center director Kirstin Distelhorst said the regulars made all the preparations. Among those present were Lena Robinson, 88, and Scott Doleshel, 7. Other seniors present were Conrad Baggerley, Francis Connelley, Lottie Larson and Irene Baxter.
Larry Reed of Stanwood was pulled ashore by Jim Leo and Adam Beardsley. He was bicycling in a flooded area and became trapped when the Stillaguamish River covered a section of Pioneer Highway between Stanwood and Silvana.
