50 years ago (1964)
Mary Doeneka, Debbie Sackmann, Nina Bay-Schmith and Sally Jo Salget, members of Ta-Ha-Wee Camp Fire Girls, displayed a hand-knit afghan that would be presented to Everett Shut-In Club at its annual award dinner at the Monte Cristo Hotel. The girls, sixth graders at Lowell School, worked on the project for several months. Material for the afghan was given by their sponsors, St. Anne’s Guild, Trinity Episcopal Church.
Smorgasbord planners from Marysville Junior High School, planning the big dinner tomorrow in their junior high cafeteria were Ken Berglund, Sam Vanderbrug and John Cockburn. The dinner was open to the public.
25 years ago (1989)
On display in the county administration building was an old voting machine dating to 1915. Then one of 170, it weighed 915 pounds making it difficult to set up and take down. By comparison its replacement weighed 12 pounds and rolled easily into place.
Matthew Reece, 4, proudly displayed his catch for the Darrington kids’ derby at Fortson Mill Pond. It was opening day of trout fishing season and the Darrington kids’ derby was in full swing.
