50 years ago (1954)
Future plans for the Port of Everett would be presented at the Everett Kiwanis Club. Port manager Tom Murray was the speaker. Hal Emery was in charge of the program.
Ray Schneider of Marysville became chairman of the emergency polio finance drive. Kenneth Smith at Marysville State Bank was treasurer. Schneider emphasized the seriousness of the epidemic of infantile paralysis in the nation and noted that Marysville had benefited from similar drives.
25 years ago (1954)
The new Albertsons food center and Payless drugstore in the College Plaza Shopping Center was to open by November, and adjacent retail stores would be ready by spring. The 17-acre center was on Broadway at 10th Street east of Everett Community College.
Wicklow, a 26-unit condominium in Marysville, was nearly complete, real estate agent Gary Wright said. The planned unit development, built by James Mulligan, was unusual because the living units provided 7,200 square feet of land per unit, the same as most single-family residential lots. The price range was from $53,750 to $72,950.
