50 years ago (1954)
A large brick warehouse in the Great Northern Railway yard in Everett collapsed after 100 carloads of wheat weighing 5,000 tons were rolled into the building.
Winners at the annual dog show at Garfield Playground included Leroy Danner, largest family of dogs; Karen and Don Mutschler, ugliest dog; and Albert and Patrick Lansing, dressiest dog.
25 years ago (1979)
The Edmonds-South County Historical Society was sponsoring a bus trip to Sedro-Woolley for a steam train excursion along the Skagit River. The train ride was nearly four hours long.
Basic square dance lessons were offered by the Dudes and Dolls Square Dance Club at the Cedar Valley Grange. Jim and Betty Davis, club callers, were the teachers. Jane Havens, speaking for the club, said the class was free.
