50 years ago (1954)
Skipper Brown of Mukilteo placed first in the Seafair Class “A” racing hydroplane (outboard) event at Green Lake in Seattle. Fred Bishoff, another prominent racer from the Everett area, placed second in the “D” stock hydroplane class. All but two first-place trophies were won by Washington drivers.
Marysville would, within a year, assume responsibility for maintenance of its main street, State. For several years the state highway department had maintained it because it was Highway 99 through town.
25 years ago (1979)
“Betsy,” the Everett Public Library’s bookmobile since 1973, was busy. The home-sized cab and walk-in trailer carried about 3,000 books and magazines. Librarian Margaret Wright and driver John Sicktich visited neighborhoods. This wasn’t the library’s first bookmobile. “Pegasus” had served the city from 1924 to just after World War II.
Scargill, a contemporary rock group with rhythm and blues and country touches, was playing at the Riverside in Everett. The group’s lead singers were from the Puget Sound area.
