50 years ago (1954)
The Fobes School Old-Timers held a reunion meeting. Officers elected during the meeting were May Cavalero, president; Luana Sherman, vice president; Roxie Johnson, treasurer; and Gar Bourcier, secretary.
Lutherans gathered at a Silvana church to observe the 70th anniversary of the founding of Zion Lutheran Church, “The Little Church on the Hill.” It was the oldest church in the county, and only one of its charter member was still living, John Brakhus of Silvana.
25 years ago (1979)
John Wirt, 12; Wayne Dougherty, 12; and Jeff Moore, 14, pooled their baseball cards and built a house of cards. The card house, which rambled through every corner of a spare bedroom, consisted of 2,623 cards. The boys were careful about letting anyone else in the room.
Molly Beckett of Granite Falls, praised by her high school art teacher as very talented, was thinking about going into machine work. She came by her talent naturally. Her mother, Norma, painted, as did an older sister and three older brothers.
