50 years ago (1954)
Chaffee’s was celebrating 34 years of business in Everett. Owner Clare Dobler presented pins to employees Lorena Larson, Ella Kuse, Lindy Liljenborg, Fanny Shaw and Eliza Malone for 25 years of service to customers in Everett and vicinity.
Three outstanding county prep football aces would see action in the University of Washington stadium where, as members of the state squad, they would take on the Tri-City team composed of stars from Seattle, Tacoma and Spokane. They were Bill Randall of Everett, Dick Robinson of Edmonds and Dick Borseth of Arlington.
25 years ago (1979)
Bay Distributing won the annual Muscular Dystrophy Bed Race in downtown Everett. They nudged The Herald’s team by a mattress in the championship heat to remain undefeated in the two-hour Colby Avenue classic.
Other entries were Providence Hospital, General Hospital, KWYZ, KRKO, Seafirst Bank, Cascade Savings and Loan, Olympic Bank, J.C. Penney, Pay ‘N’ Save and King Size Photo.
Anne K. Pepper was named assistant manager at the Lynnwood branch of Seattle First National Bank. She worked as a teller for the Everett and Lynnwood branches before being promoted to operations and personnel supervisor in 1976.
