50 years ago (1954)

Four Everett students who were entering the University of Washington in the fall received advice on their study programs during a recent visit to the campus. They were Jim Ramsey, 917 Colby Ave.; John Hollahan, 2023 Highland Ave.; Gary Jensen, 1333 Oakes Ave.; and Fred Carlisle, 919 Hoyt Ave.

A 40th wedding anniversary party honoring Ben and Bell Witter of the Roosevelt district was to be held at the French Creek Grange Hall. The couple had lived in the Roosevelt area since 1938. Before that, they had lived in Snohomish. They were married in Osage, Minn. Further information could be obtained by contacting Florence Jones or Lee Halvorson.

25 years ago (1979)

NGE Fireplace Shop at 1611 E. Grand Ave. had fireplace inserts available for $625. They were manufactured in Everett, and immediate installation was possible.

A recent Oak Harbor City Council zoning decision meant more than a new restaurant for the city. It also meant that the old water tower, a landmark on 700th Avenue W. easily visible from Highway 20, would continue to stand. This was good news to owner George Mahler. It was built in 1911 by the Neil family, who contracted a French designer and Dutch artisans.
