50 years ago (1954)

Sister M. Jean Dorcy, noted artist and author, demonstrated her silhouette cutting on KING-TV’s “Workshop.” She also discussed her book on the subject, “Shady Hobby.” Dorcy was a member of the Dominican Sisters in Everett.

Paul Hathaway won a new outboard motor and $100 thanks to the 14-pound fish that earned him first place in the Everett Plywood and Door fishing derby. Oscar Iverson took second place and Wes Smith took third place.

25 years ago (1979)

Everett Community College was planning to offer classes in Snohomish, Sultan and Arlington this fall following a survey showing great interest in adult education in those areas. Marysville, Stanwood and Darrington also showed interest in the classes, according to the survey.

Fire outlooks, which were built on high peaks to give fire watchers the best possible view of the surrounding forests, were considered great hiking destinations. Two popular lookouts near Everett were those atop Mount Pilchuck and Three Fingers. The Everett Mountaineers maintained both outlooks.
