50 years ago (1954)
Roosevelt School PTA celebrated its 25th anniversary and honored Principal Lawrence Bohanon with a golf bag. Bohanon had served as principal since the school was a portable structure on Madison Street in Everett. Wally Carmichael, a former student, spoke on the highlights of Bohanon’s career.
Rosehill ninth-graders, Anna Cate and Calvin Papritz, were awarded the Fox Memorial Plaque for qualities of scholarship, service and leadership. Claudia Hurd and Leonard Stobbe were honored for having no absences in five years. Principal Paul Kimball made the awards.
25 years ago (1979)
Construction was to begin this month on Fidelity Mutual Savings Bank’s new downtown Everett branch on the southwest corner of Hewitt and Colby. The site had been leased to the city since 1976 for a bicentennial park, and the office building would have landscaping to maintain the park setting. The bank was at Hewitt and Wetmore. William Root was branch manager.
Leah Powers of the Port Gardner Ladies Club (Everett Municipal) held the opening round lead of the City of Everett Women’s Golf Championship with a gross score of 79.
