50 years ago (1954)
Members and friends of First United Methodist Church were welcoming their new minister and his family. The Rev. Maurice Chamberlin had arrived from United Methodist Church in Vallejo, Calif. He and his family would live at Broadmoor Apartments until a new parsonage was built.
Four girls from the Paddy Hudson Dance Studio would be among those on the program for the Lowell Congregational Church’s “Starline Revue.” They were Judy Murray, Susan Taylor, Carole Locke and Linda Westling.
25 years ago (1979)
Mel Pountain was named a partner in Jones and Sutcliffe Insurance. Before joining the south Snohomish County firm handling all types of insurance, Pountain was associated with D.A. Duryee &Co. of Everett for 13 years.
South Snohomish County residents would pay higher taxi fares. Phyliss Magnell, secretary of the Lynnwood-based Plaza Cab Co. that served the Lynnwood, Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace area, announced the fare increase. The new rates, the same as those in King County, went from 90 cents to $1 for entering a cab, 70 cents to $1 for every mile, and $7.20 to $12 for each waiting hour.
