50 years ago (1954)
Joe Schlosser succeeded Larry Gourlie as president of Everett Central Lions. Other officers named were Bill Ehmke, Frank Patterson, Al Hascal, Walt Price, Jim Simonton and Hal Cosser. Larry Jones led the nominating committee.
Members of the cast of “Magic in the Land of Oz” that was to be presented by Everett Play Production at the new Jackson High School auditorium were practicing. They were Jean Donna Henry as Dorothy, Susan Falkenberg as scarecrow, John Sjostrom as tin woodsman, Jay Frolich as cowardly lion and Norris Sjostrom as the voice of Toto the dog.
25 years ago (1979)
General Telephone Co.’s new president in the Northwest was Claude Munsell, who would take over from Alred Barran June 1. A native of Wenatchee and graduate of Washington State University, he was in a managerial position in Michigan.
The Everett Community College men’s and women’s track teams each won championships in the Athletic Association of Community College Region 1 meet at Tacoma Community College. The men’s team won its ninth championship in 10 years under coach Will McGillivray. Winners were Gary Fuhrman, Mike Berg, Mike Turner, Steve Johnson, Christy Reinstra, Kathy Mauer, Sue Hopper, Vicki Foltz and Tammy Kolkana.
