50 years ago (1954)
Already the home of about 8,500 people, Mountlake Terrace was growing steadily, with new residents being added as rapidly as builders could erect houses for them. In just eight years the Lynnwood Shopping Center had developed from seven to 116 businesses. South Snohomish County was undergoing an incredible growth spurt.
Allan May was the head of the newly opened South Snohomish County bureau of the Everett Herald. May, who said that printer’s ink was getting in his blood, was proud to have the job. He and his family made their home in Mountlake Terrace.
25 years ago (1954)
Construction was planned this summer on a new $450,000 office building adjacent to the Bank of Everett’s View Ridge branch at the corner of Dogwood Avenue and Mukilteo Boulevard. Dr. Kirk Smith, an Everett dentist, was building the View Ridge Professional Center.
Frank Younce, a senior at Granite Falls High School, took first place in statewide agriculture-mechanics competition sponsored by the Future Farmers of America recently. His first-place award came in the area of electrification.
