50 years ago (1954)
William Taft, a Pacific Northwest radio veteran from a pioneer radio family, acquired sole interest in Everett Broadcasting Co., operator of KRKO. Like the Taft family, the station also was a pioneer. One of the oldest broadcasting stations in the country, it first went on the air in 1920.
A special meeting of Banner Rebekah Lodge’s Officer’s Club would be held jointly with the Past Noble Grands Club at the home of Lela Wilcox, 2222 Lombard Ave. Colleen Burns would be co-hostess.
25 years ago (1979)
The Claremont B&M Shopping Center on Evergreen Way at 50th Street in south Everett welcomed three new businesses: Finders Keepers, a factory outlet that offered contemporary fashions for women; Rosebuds, a dining and dancing establishment; and Northgate Fabric, which advertised plush shirt velour and acetate nylon jersey.
Brothers Mike and Scott Johnson and friend Scott Fincher of Edmonds set the world’s endurance record for nonstop swinging, surpassing the previous 182 hours in the Guinness Book of Records. About 30 people gathered in the Johnsons’ back yard to help count off the final minutes. The three exhausted youths rejoiced with apple cider, chocolate cake and more swinging.
